MEET THE FOUNDER

 I was born and raised in Jamaica. I now live in Maryland. am an entrepreneur, a wife and mother, and an author. I published my first non-fiction in 2021. 

I published my first novel, Bad Seed: The Midnight Cries of an Island Girl, in 2024, now available worldwide. Earlier this year, I published my second novel, The Jacket: Am I My Father's Daughter. I'm currently working on the sequel to both novels. Writing has become an integral part of my life, and I'm grateful for the support I've gotten from the writing community at large, particularly from the You're Write Here community. My hope is to continue writing stories that educate, empower, and enlighten. 

Dr. Chenille Johnson is an educator, researcher, children’s book author, and community advocate committed to using education, storytelling, and mentorship to empower individuals. She holds a Doctorate in Community Care and Counseling with a specialization in Traumatology and brings experience in research, curriculum development, education, and community engagement. As the author of the children’s book Bark! I’m Moving, Dr. Johnson understands the power of writing to help individuals explore experiences, navigate transitions, and share their unique voices. Her professional and scholarly work reflects a commitment to culturally responsive practices, educational opportunity, and creating spaces where diverse perspectives are valued.

Graduate Student Teaching Assistant at UMCP 1981-83, teaching Business Math and Pre-Calculus. Paid Worker at the Maryland Food Collective, 1984-1998. Wrote object oriented code for Leverage Technologists (~1996-97) to analyse legacy code for Y2K issues. Thirty-eight poems published or accepted for publication in fifteen different journals or venues. Won the Enoch Pratt Free Library Poetry Contest, 2024. Volunteered for many years and in many roles at Science Fictions conventions, most notably Unicon and Chessiecon.

I am award- winning, internationally selling, multigenre published author and poet. I've been on this journey of poetry and short stories since age 6. I came into short novels at age 33. My passion for writing has lead me to numerous events, including going to Germany to attend one of the largest book events in the world, meeting well know book companies like Hoopla and being introduce to multiple countries from around the world.
